Mazda is a massive player in global motorsports at all levels of competition. Mazda remains the only Japanese manufacturer to have won the world’s most famous endurance circuit event, Le Mans.
Today the company’s North American arm remains the most active motorsport region. Today there are more Mazdas and Mazda-powered vehicles road-racing in North America than any other brand.
MAZDASPEED, as it is known, began in 1967 as a grassroots racing team dedicated to turning Mazda production vehicles into racing cars. Today, MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development still concentrates its focus on grass-roots racing, while amateur and professional drivers throughout the racing scene select Mazdas as their best chance at victory. Events include Speed World Challenge Touring Cars, the Star Mazda open-wheel series and the Grand-Am GT series.
