Keeping the emotion in motion.
At Mazda we build vehicles that are not just a means of getting from A to B. Mazda believe that the drive, the journey, is as important as the destination, that’s why we build cars that deliver Zoom-Zoom, the emotion of motion. Following the Mazda Maintenance program will ensure that this feeling is not lost and your Mazda will continue to deliver class leading levels of performance for years to come.

When it comes time to sell your Mazda, one of the first things prospective buyers want to see is the service handbook. They want confirmation that you've looked after your Mazda. Regular servicing at a Mazda Service Centre demonstrates that you’ve maintained your Mazda, having it serviced by the most qualified technicians using top quality parts.
This maximizes your vehicle’s future value.
What are the most important aspects of vehicle maintenance?
Some parts are more affected by time than they are by distance travelled, which is why Mazda specify a Time and/or Distance Travelled interval, whichever comes first. Oil is a good example. Its protective properties are fundamental to the wellbeing of your engine, but only last a limited time, especially if you're doing short trips and lots of stop, start driving.
Other systems which rely on lubricants and parts affected by time rather than distance travelled, include brake systems, oil filters and air filters.
During normal operation, engine oil becomes contaminated due to the by-products of combustion and normal wear.
Oil is normally replaced at specified service intervals. If a vehicle is operated in any of the following conditions, it may be necessary to change the engine oil and filter more regularly due to increased contamination rates.
- Dusty conditions
- Extended periods of idling or low speed operation
- Driving for long periods in cold temperatures
- Regular driving of short distances only
Genuine Mazda Engine Oils
To ensure engine longevity, Mazda recommends using Genuine Mazda Engine Oils. They’re specifically formulated to help your Mazda deliver maximum Zoom-Zoom, and are available through the Mazda Sevice Centre network.
| All Mazda passenger vehicles (incl. BT-50), except: Mazda3 Diesel, Mazda6 Diesel and RX-8 | Mazda recommends Mazda Premium Engine Oil. It’s specifically formulated and tested to meet the stringent Mazda Engineering Standard (MES) for your Mazda. |
Mazda3 Diesel Mazda6 Diesel
CX-7 Diesel
|
We recommend Genuine Mazda Diesel Engine Oil. This low-ash oil meets the specific requirements of the MZR-CD engine. If oil other than specified is used, the Diesel Particulate Filter may be damaged.
|
|
Mazda RX-8
|
We recommend Genuine Mazda Rotary Engine Oil, a mineral based oil meeting the rotary engine’s specific requirements. Synthetic or semi-synthetic oils may adversely affect the rotary engine’s starting performance

Engine oil filters trap minute particles of carbon and metal as they circulate in the engine lubricating system.
If the filter is not replaced in accordance with the manufacturers schedule, the effectiveness of the filter is decreased which can reduce oil flow within the engine and also allow the solid particles to circulate and cause accelerated wear.
Fuel filters trap rust, water and other foreign material that may originate in the fuel tank or from contaminated fuel.
Water and other particulates circulating in the fuel can at best, result in poor engine performance, but can also cause costly damage to fuel injection systems.
Again, failure to replace these filters as scheduled can result in costly repairs.
Engine air filters remove highly abrasive dust particles from the air that is drawn into the engine to mix with the fuel in order to make the correct air fuel mixture that is required for proper engine performance.
A blocked air filter will result in a high fuel consumption and poor performance.
A damaged or blocked air filter will allow the abrasive particles to be drawn into the engine.
They will quickly cause engine wear which can’t be reversed.
If a vehicle is operated in sandy or dusty conditions, the air filter will need cleaning or replacement more often than specified in the maintenance schedule.
The function of the cabin air filter is to remove pollen and grass from the air being drawn into the vehicle through the vehicle air-conditioning and cabin ventilation systems.
A blocked filter will reduce the effectiveness of these systems by reducing airflow.
Brake fluid is a vitally important part of the braking system. It transfers pressure from the brake pedal to the brakes at each wheel, which in turn stops the vehicle.
Apart from transferring pressure, brake fluid performs a number of other functions including lubricating brake components & protecting them from corrosion. The ability of brake fluid to perform these functions deteriorates over time. To keep your brake system performing at its peak the brake fluid on your Mazda should be replaced every 24 months or 40,000km, whichever comes first.
Brake fluid comes in many specifications, determining the fluid’s performance under different conditions. Brake fluid with a specification lower than recommended by the manufacturer should never be used.
Genuine Mazda Brake Fluid Dot3 is the only product tested to meet the specific requirements of Mazda brake systems, ensuring optimum performance. It’s available at Mazda Service Centres.
The original fitment tyres on your Mazda were selected to deliver the high standard of ride, performance and handling that you expect from a Mazda.
To make sure you get the most out of your tyres, and your Mazda, it is important for tyres are maintained properly.
Under-inflation even by small amounts, 7-14kPa (1-2lb), can considerably increase fuel consumption. Over time it also causes increased noise, uneven tread wear which can’t be reversed. Under-inflation also reduces the tyre's load carrying capacity and causes heat build up in the tyre casing. In extreme cases this can result in tyre failure and loss of vehicle control.
What should my tyre pressure be?
On Mazda vehicles, this label is usually fitted at the rear edge of the driver's door or in the driver's door opening on the centre pillar. It contains important information on the rim size, tyre size, cold tyre pressures and the minimum legal tyre load and speed ratings for the wheels and tyres fitted as original equipment.
The cold tyre pressures shown on the tyre placard should be considered as the minimum. Tyre pressures should not be allowed to fall below this figure.
How to check your tyre pressures
Tyre Pressures should ideally be checked every two weeks and must ALWAYS be checked when the tyres are COLD.
Warm tyre pressures can be 20-30kPa (3-4 lb) above the recommended cold pressure. NEVER LET AIR OUT OF A WARM TYRE TO SET IT AT THE PLACARDED FIGURE. IT WILL RESULT IN SERIOUS UNDER-INFLATION.
Petrol station tyre gauges are often inaccurate, so try to use your own, good quality gauge.
Never rely on appearance; modern belt construction prevents tyre distortion being easily seen, even when a tyre is under-inflated.
Tread depth
Your tyres’ ability to perform safely in wet conditions can be seriously compromised as the tread wears.
In Australia the legal minimum tread depth of any roadworthy tyre is 1.6mm.
This minimum depth is shown on the tyre by a series Tread Wear Indicators located at a minimum of 4 points around the tyre in the major tread grooves. Their location in the tread face is indicated by a triangle on the upper tyre sidewall at the edge of the tread as shown below.
If any of these indicators become level with the surrounding tread face at any one point on the tyre - regardless of conditions elsewhere on the tread, that tyre is legally unroadworthy.
Your Mazda Service Centre can advise you on correct tyre maintenance, including a tyre rotation schedule.
Should you need to replace worn tyre/s, your Mazda Service Centre can assist you in choosing from a large range of top brand, quality tyres suited to your needs.
