Mazda Australia today announced the arrival of the new Mazda3, signaling the next chapter in the success story of the country’s best selling small car.
In addition to an updated design which includes a new front fascia, the new Mazda3 range also features technical enhancements to improve driving dynamics.
In front of an appreciative audience at the Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne, Mazda also confirmed that a new SP20 SKYACTIV model would be added to the new Mazda3 range when it is launched later this year.
The Mazda3 SP20 SKYACTIV will be equipped with the company’s all-new SKYACTIV-G 2.0 litre direct injection petrol engine mated to the all-new SKYACTIV-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission.
In addition to making the Mazda3 SP20 SKYACTIV even more fun to drive, this combination of new SKYACTIV technologies will also deliver class-leading levels of fuel efficiency.
When it is launched, the Mazda3 SP20 SKYACTIV will become Australia’s most fuel efficient, petrol-powered automatic small car.
Using regular unleaded fuel, the new Mazda3 SKYACTIV achieves a high compression ratio of 12.0:1 and delivers 113kW at 6,000 rpm and 194Nm of torque at 4,100 rpm. This equates to an increase in power of approximately five percent and an increase in torque of almost seven percent when compared to the current Mazda3 MZR 2.0 litre engine.
The new SKYACTIV-Drive 6 speed transmission makes a valuable contribution to fuel efficiency and the fun-to-drive feel by integrating the key advantages of a conventional automatic transmission, a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).
In addition, the new Mazda3 SP20 SKYACTIV will be the first Mazda model in Australia to feature i-stop, the company’s award-winning idling stop system.
The Mazda3 range has deservedly earned a solid reputation for its sporty and engaging handling and the new Mazda3 range is set to build on this.
Optimisation to the front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension layout will ensure that every model in the new Mazda3 range offers a ride which is more nimble and comfortable than ever before.
The new Mazda3 SP20 SKYACTIV can be seen on the Mazda stand at the Australian International Motor Show from July 1 – 10. The new Mazda3 range will be available in Mazda showrooms later this year.
