INTRODUCING A NEW ERA OF MAZDA PREMIUM

THE FIRST-EVER MAZDA CX-60

Pricing and Specifications confirmed

The First-Ever Mazda CX-60 is now available to order, setting a new benchmark in style, quality and performance for the brand and its Mazda Premium philosophy.

Arriving in June 2023, Mazda CX-60 is the debut vehicle from Mazda’s Large Product Group and introduces three sophisticated new powertrains. All hybridised, this includes inline-six turbocharged petrol and diesel engines and Mazda’s first-ever plug-in hybrid.

The powertrains can be mated to any one of three highly specified model grades – Evolve, GT or Azami – and customised further with safety and styling option packs.

Commenting on the new flagship model’s significance, Mazda Australia Managing Director, Vinesh Bhindi said: “The Mazda CX-60 is more than an exciting new SUV; it’s the evolution of Mazda Premium – a high-quality concentration of design, driving dynamics, technology and comfort developed around our customers and what they want from a mid-sized SUV.”

Powertrains

Launching with a hybrid-only powertrain line-up, at the top of the range is the very first Mazda plug-in hybrid – the e-SkyActiv PHEV. With a combined 241 kW system output and peak torque of 500Nm from its 100 kW motor and Skyactiv-G 2.5, four-cylinder direct injection petrol, the Mazda CX-60 earns the title as the most powerful road-going Mazda to date. Its 100 km/h sprint time from rest takes just 5.9 seconds.

Overall range in EV mode is up to 76 km at speeds of up to 100 km/h – comfortably exceeding the average Australian daily commuting distance[i] by almost five times without the need to revert to the petrol engine.

Fuel consumption is also rated at a remarkably low 2.1L/100km, corresponding to CO2 emissions of just 49g/km.

The 355V, 17.8 kWh high-capacity lithium-ion battery onboard battery, which is situated low in the car between the front and rear axles for an optimised centre of gravity, can be fully recharged from empty in 2.5 hours using a 7.2 kW AC charger.

The six-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel both share a 3.3-litre capacity and join the line-up for the first time, with each utilising Mazda’s 48V M Hybrid Boost technology.

The large capacity actually improves efficiency with the higher volume of air enabling more complete combustion and a wider lean-burn range leading to lower fuel use and reduced NOx emissions.

In the e-Skyactiv G turbo petrol engine, this results in performance well above that of the Mazda CX-5’s 2.5 litre turbo (0-100 km/h takes 6.9 seconds – a full eight-tenths quicker), but with much better fuel economy – closer to a naturally aspirated 2.5 litre.

Mazda’s right-sizing approach to engine design gives the e-Skyactiv D turbo diesel a similar weight to that of a conventional four-cylinder diesel. It also offers a broad speed range at which lean burn (high-efficiency combustion with minimal fuel consumption) can occur.

The results are impressive: the 3.3 litre e-Skyactiv D delivers a maximum power level of 187 kW and a remarkable 550 Nm of torque at 1,500 – 2,400 rpm. Acceleration to 100 km/h from rest takes 7.3 seconds, with robust in-gear performance at highway speeds for brisk overtaking and manoeuvrability[ii].

All engines in the Mazda CX-60 range are combined with a newly developed Skyactiv-Drive eight-speed automatic transmission. Smooth and responsive, it uses a wider gear range that delivers an optimal balance between driving and environmental performance. The use of a clutch in place of a torque converter means switching between gears is clean and rhythmic. It also enables accurate control of the M Hybrid Boost electric motor in the 48V mild hybrid system (where fitted).

The new rear-biased i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system is also fitted to all versions of the Mazda CX-60. This is supported by Mi-Drive, which helps the driver easily switch between five different driving modes, each to suit a different driving situation: Normal, Sport, Off-Road, Towing and EV (PHEV only). This allows drivers to optimise traction, performance, handling and safety in the widest possible range of driving environments.

Equipment

The Mazda CX-60 Evolve model grade blends a mix of genuine practicality and signature Mazda design, offering customers a high-quality feel and driving experience with generous standard appointments.

The exterior styling of the CX-60 Evolve features 18-inch alloy wheels in a grey metallic finish and body-colour exterior rear-view mirrors. The front bumper with honeycomb-type grille is matched by the stylish rear design which features bright chrome exhaust finishers.

The black interior of the Evolve model grade gives the cabin a sense of depth and a classic, elegant look. The front eight-way adjustable seats, instrument panel and side door trims are upholstered in Maztex leatherette and the steering wheel and gear shift knob are trimmed in leather.

The Mazda CX-60 GT conveys an intelligent, dignified look infused with a luxurious, premium ambience.

Along with a variety of additional standard inclusions, the GT comes fitted with black 20-inch alloy wheels, a gloss-black front honeycomb grille, body-colour wheel arches and lower cladding along with other styling changes.

The interior – available in either black or Revera Stone – comes fitted with leather-upholstered seats and offers a welcoming sense of luxury.

The range-leading Mazda CX-60 Azami expresses urban tastes with a Japanese monozukuri (craftsmanship) aesthetic in what Mazda calls “Japanese Premium”.

With its variety of enhanced styling elements, such as black and machine-cut 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlamps with bright signature lighting, and front bumper with bar-type grille, the Azami immediately conveys strength and urban style in equal measures.

The bright side signatures express the engine fitted to the Mazda CX-60.

The interior’s woven textile fabrics and nappa leather upholstery are only two of the many premium materials and meticulous finishes that characterise the Azami model grade.

Technology and safety

The First-Ever Mazda CX-60 is underpinned by Mazda’s Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, which has been designed with a human-centric approach. It incorporates design elements such as focused body shell rigidity for driving response without lag, and controlled stiffness in different components to manage the transmission of forces to the occupant cabin, ensuring premium levels of comfort. It also uses Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) to control the posture of the Mazda CX-60 when braking at speed.

A range of i-Activsense driver assistance systems are designed to deliver safety performance for both occupants and other road users, including pedestrians.

Several of these new technologies debut in the Mazda CX-60. They include See-Through View, which builds on Mazda’s current 360° View Monitor by projecting natural footage of the vehicle’s surroundings, Hill Descent Control (HDC), which makes descending slippery road surfaces such as dirt tracks much safer, i-Adaptive Cruise Control (i-ACC), which can now incorporate speed limits from Traffic Sign Recognition and Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) with Vehicle Exit Warning.

The Driver Personalisation System, another new innovation from Mazda, debuts in the First-Ever Mazda CX-60 and makes it easy for drivers to achieve their ideal driving position and enjoy Mazda’s signature Celebrate Driving experience.

When the driver enters their height via the infotainment centre display, the automatic driving position guide uses a camera to detect the location of their eyes. It then automatically adjusts the seat, steering wheel, Active Driving Display and door mirrors to match the driver’s eye position.

The system uses facial recognition to remember each driver’s preferences. Once the driver is detected, the Mazda CX-60 automatically restores more than 250 stored settings to match their preferences, including vehicle, audio and climate control settings. The system stores settings for up to six different users, plus guests.

The Driver Entry/Exit Assist function slides the steering wheel and seat out of the way to make it easier for drivers to get into and out of the Mazda CX-60.

Colour choices

Rhodium White Premium Metallic now joins Soul Red Crystal Metallic and Machine Grey Metallic and becomes Mazda’s third signature body colour.

Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of ‘less is more’ and created through a further evolution of Mazda’s Takuminuri painting technology, this new colour expresses strength and elegance through a Mazda-unique metallic look.

Alternatively, Mazda CX-60 customers can choose from the following colours: Jet Black Mica, Deep Crystal Blue Mica, Sonic Silver Metallic, Machine Grey Metallic, Soul Red Crystal Metallic and Platinum Quartz Metallic.
