REDUCING EMISSIONS
FROM MANUFACTURING

Mazda takes responsibility for the emissions produced by its cars, not just when they’re being driven, but also when they are made and when they reach the end of their use. Mazda uses a Life Cycle Assessment, which allows it to pinpoint areas that can reduce the environmental burden of car manufacture, delivery, use, and recycling.

2025 - 2030

Mazda is prioritising the environment with innovations like sustainable materials and cleaner manufacturing. By 2030, one quarter of our cars worldwide will be fully electric, with all other models electrified in various forms. We have made the commitment that by 2030 we will reduce the corporate ‘Well-to-Wheel’ CO2 emissions to 50% compared to the 2010 levels.

2050

By 2050 Mazda will achieve carbon neutrality during the life cycle of its vehicles and the entire supply chain. Every facet of our operations – product, technology, manufacturing and sales, will be carbon neutral.

ELECTRIFICATION

For Mazda, the future is more than batteries and charging stations. It's our mindset. We believe the electrification of cars will play a major role in reducing emissions in the coming decades. As electricity from renewable energy increases, electric vehicles become even more environmentally friendly.

GREATER ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Inspired by our challenger spirit, Mazda has always been at the forefront of automotive innovation and technology. Our focus is on sustainability through electrification, cleaner fuels, and increased energy efficiency. We acknowledge the pivotal role of electrification in reducing emissions for existing and future vehicles. Mazda's engineers continually explore ways to enhance the energy efficiency of all vehicles, including our proven SKYACTIV technologies.

SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURING

As we work towards achieving carbon neutrality, Mazda has thoroughly assessed every aspect of how we make our vehicles. Taking a comprehensive approach allows us to find ways to be more efficient, reduce emissions, and embrace sustainable practices. Our dedication to examining the entire production process is crucial in reducing carbon emissions, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality in all Mazda plants worldwide by 2035 and throughout the entire supply chain by 2050.

UNIQUE PAINTING TECHNOLOGIES

The Aqua-tech Paint System reduces emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) by 78 percent compared to Mazda’s previous oilbased paint systems without increasing energy consumption and associated CO2 emissions. Now, with some of the lowest levels of both VOC and CO2 emissions, Mazda’s Aqua-tech is one of the most environmentally friendly automotive paint systems in the world.

KODO DESIGN

Mazda vehicles are designed to cut a clean path through the air. This reduced drag means the engine doesn’t need to work so hard, reducing emissions and your fuel bills.
