Mazda goes green with 2026 MX-5 update

The most iconic model in the Mazda lineup receives a series of thoughtful enhancements inside and out for 2026, further elevating the experience on offer in the world’s best-selling two-seat sports car.

Chief among the updates is an all-new, premium body colour – Zinc Green Metallic. Debuting on the 2026 MX-5 Roadster and RF, Zinc Green Metallic takes inspiration from the colour and texture of zinc chromate primer – an undercoat used to enhance the durability of industrial products – and translates rational beauty into a sense of toughness expressed through colour and texture.

The solid-like texture creates a powerful impression in low-light conditions, while in bright light, the delicate metallic sheen accentuates the MX-5’s sculptural beauty – resulting in a modern, yet sophisticated appearance.

The remainder of the colour palette remains unchanged and is comprised of Snowflake White Pearl Mica, Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Deep Crystal Blue Mica, Jet Black Mica, Machine Grey Metallic and Aero Grey Metallic.

The broader MX-5 range sees an uptick in safety with the addition of Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) now capable of detecting both pedestrians and cyclists (previously pedestrians only), providing greater confidence across a wider range of driving scenarios.

Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) also makes its way to the MX-5 range, complementing the vehicle’s existing suite of advanced safety technologies, while preserving the Jinba Ittai driving dynamics that have made the MX-5 a favourite among enthusiasts for the last 35 years.

Exclusive to the MX-5 GT RS, lightweight RECARO® bucket seats trimmed in nappa leather and genuine Alcantara® with light grey stitching become a standard offering. Providing exceptional support during spirited driving, and comfort for everyday usability, the addition of RECARO® seats further reinforces the track-focused capability of the flagship model. The MX-5 GT RS also benefits from the addition of genuine Alcantara® trim across the instrument panel, centre console, console lid and door trim.

Commenting on the update, Mazda Australia Sales and Marketing Director, Jarrod Gieschen said: “Green has been in high demand from our customers, and we’re excited to re-introduce it. This is the first time in 10 years that a green body colour has been available on a Mazda in Australia. It’s a fitting addition to the rest of the compelling updates for our globally revered sports car.”
