Mazda BT-50 Gives Heaps more with the return of the Thunder
BT-50 Thunder Returns for 2026
The eminently popular BT-50 is set to become even more compelling thanks to a suite of updates and the introduction of two additional model grades for 2026.
Headlining the updates for 2026 is the return of the range-topping BT-50 Thunder. Mated exclusively to the dependable 3.0L 4-cylinder diesel and 4X4 drivetrain, the Thunder model grade includes all of the features of GT pickup plus aesthetic and practical enhancements, ensuring it is equipped for any situation it finds itself in.
A single hoop bull bar paired with Lightforce Beast driving lights make their way to the Thunder as standard, improving off-road capability. Customers will also enjoy easy access thanks to the reinforced, anti-slip side steps.
Rugged Styling and Practical Enhancements
The rear of the BT-50 Thunder commands road presence with a long-legged steel sports bar and a manual roller tonneau cover, keeping loads secure and protected from the elements. Rounding off the features of BT-50 Thunder are gloss black door handles and a unique ‘Thunder’ decal set.
Introducing the BT-50 Boss
Also joining the model lineup for 2026 is the BT-50 Boss, an all-new model grade for the BT-50 range. Available exclusively as a 3.0L 4X4 pickup, the BT-50 Boss features the standard equipment of XT grades, plus gloss black door and tailgate handles, gloss black exterior mirrors and a black steel sports bar.
Added Practicality Across the Range
In addition to the styling enhancements, the BT-50 Boss also receives a boost in the practicality department with the standard fitment of a tub liner, and side steps.
More broadly, the BT-50 also welcomes the addition of a 360-degree camera on XTR, GT and SP Pickup variants, adding to the already-high daily usability of the vehicle.
The Mazda BT-50 continues to appeal to a wide-range of consumers with 20 available variants, ensuring there is an appropriate model to meet all needs.

The colour palette remains rugged yet sleek for 2026. Customers can choose from Red Earth Metallic, Sailing Blue Metallic, True Black Mica, Geode White Pearl, Concrete Grey Mica or Ingot Silver Metallic, with Ice White rounding out the options. A $695 premium paint fee applies to all metallic, mica and pearl paints.
The updated BT-50 is available in showrooms now, with the Boss featuring an unmissable introductory DAP offer of $58,990*.
