The Mazda BT-50’s Rough Terrain Mode is designed to give you greater confidence on Australia’s toughest off-road tracks. This intelligent system enhances stability and grip by optimising throttle control and braking force, helping you maintain momentum over uneven and slippery terrain.
Engaging Rough Terrain Mode is simple — press the switch, and the BT-50 automatically adjusts engine speed and brake force through the traction control system. It reduces wheel spin by directing torque to the wheel with the most grip, giving you smoother, more controlled progress on rocky, rutted or muddy surfaces.
For added capability, Rough Terrain Mode works with all major 4x4 settings, including 2H, 4H and 4L. However, it requires Dynamic Stability Control to remain active.
In the latest BT-50, you can view Rough Terrain Mode status directly on the infotainment screen. The updated transfer menu displays whether the system is engaged and which drive mode you’re in — useful whether you're touring, towing or tackling technical off-road sections.
The result? A smoother, more confident drive, no matter how challenging the track is.
Drive smarter. Drive stronger. Drive the Mazda BT-50.
