Mazda BT-50 Tech Drive: Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
How to Safely Reinflate Tyre Pressure After Off-Road Driving in Australia
Lights, beeps, action
Off-road driving can require a few changes, both by the driver and to the vehicle.
One of these changes relates to tyres. You will need lower tyres pressures when driving over certain off-road terrain types, such as soft sand.
But how do you reinflate your Mazda BT-50’s tyres after you’ve dropped their pressure levels?
Mark Crawshaw, Mazda Australia’s Product Training Senior Specialist, shows you how. He also reveals how the Mazda BT-50 offers some handy built-in features that make it simple. It’s all in the video below.

As you may be aware, the Mazda BT-50 comes equipped with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). A handy function of that system is the Tyre Air Refill Assist.
In many four-wheel driving situations, to obtain better traction, the driver is required to deflate the tyres to provide a larger footprint to get through challenging terrain. Examples include loose dirt, sand, or mud.
Once the off-road journey is complete, it’s important to inflate the tyres back to the desired pressures. This applies when returning to four-wheel-high mode or heading back onto the highway.
Once each tyre has been inflated to the correct pressure according to the tyre placard, the vehicle system will alert you with three hazard flashes on the indicators and three beeps. If the system provides seven beeps or seven flashes, then the Tyre Air Refill Assist function needs to be performed again.
Today, I used a portable air compressor with a gauge. However, in situations where you only have access to a compressor without a gauge, or if the gauge may be damaged, the Tyre Air Refill Assist function ensures that each tyre is inflated to the correct pressures.
It’s a great feature to have on the Mazda BT-50. If you enjoy this miniseries, comment below. If there are other features you’d like to learn about, send us a DM.
